Number of Attempts for JEE Main 2020 April Exam

National Testing Agency has made changes in the examination conduct pattern. Now NTA conducts JEE Exam twice every year. The candidates can appear in both the January and April Session and the final best of two results will be considered during the JEE Main Counseling session. The candidates can take this opportunity to better their marks and get a better college during JEE Main Counselling.

Best of JEE Main 2020 Result

In its new Exam Conduct, NTA decided that the candidates can take two attempts instead of just one in a year. Thus, when the final counselling session is conducted for JEE Main the institute will consider the best of two results. As in, a candidate appearing in April Session, as well as April Session, can see in which session has he scored higher marks. If the candidate has scored higher marks in April Session his April Scores will be considered. If he has scored higher marks in April Session, his April Session Marks will be considered. Thus, the best of two results will be chosen for the JEE Main Counselling 2020.

How To Calculate The JEE Main Score?

Most of the students get stuck in calculating their marks and estimating their approx ranking. Now, NTA releases the result on the basis of the percentile of the students. The normalization method is used in which the percentile scored by the students is taken into consideration. So this is how the scores are made:

Raw scores – This is the outline of setting the marks scored by the candidates. However, NTA never discloses the raw score but take it into consideration while setting the final answer key. Simple logic flows in this context is that: 4 mark for each correct answer and  1 mark deduction for an incorrect response.

Calculation of the Raw Score

JEE Main Raw Score = 4 x Correct Attempt – 1 X Incorrect Attempt

Raw Scores also includes the percentile score of each subject (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) separately.

Percentile Score

JEE Main AIR –  The final AIR will be prepared after both the session gets over i.e January & April Session. If the students appear for both the session, then the best of the two will be taken into consideration. But if students appear for only one session then the session for he/she has appeared will be considered.

Percentile score – NTA prepares the percentile score by taking the normalizing raw score of the candidates. On the basis of the percentile score, a merit list is prepared. The formula to calculate the percentile score is:

100 x Number of candidates appeared in the ‘session’ with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate / Total number of the candidates appeared in the ‘session’.

JEE Main Final Score

The final score of JEE Main is prepared once both the session is over i.e January & April. The best score for those who appear for both the session is taken. On the other hand if someone attempts one session only then only that session will be considered for making the final answer statement. Look into the image to clear the doubt.

What Is Tie-Breaking Policy Of JEE Main 2020?

Many a time, students obtain similar marks in JEE Main exam. In such a situation there is a tie-breaking policy that is set by NTA to rank the candidates.

  • The Candidates having a higher percentile score in Mathematics are ranked higher in the merit.
  • If the tie is still there, then the candidates with higher percentile scores in Physics are given preference in the merit.
  • If tie still persists, then the higher percentile score in Chemistry is considered for breaking the tie.
  • In case, If none of the above methods resolve the tie, then the age of the candidate is taken into consideration. Candidate older in age is preferred in the merit.

JEE Main 2020 Cut Off

JEE Main Cut Off 2020 is the minimum marks which the candidates must score in order to qualify the exam. The cut off is released after the JEE Main Result. Category wise cut off is set by the concerned authority. Thus, candidate’s as per the category have to bring the marks equal to or more than JEE Main Cut off to clear the exam and be eligible for JEE Advanced. After the JEE Main 2020 cut off is released, JoSAA will release the admission cut off based on JEE Main 2020 score for NITs, IIITs and GFITs.
