Jee Main Exam Number of Attempts in Earlier Version
Till the year 2018, IIT JEE Main Exam was conducted by one of the 23 IIT’s. This year National Testing Agency has announced various changes. Let us check what were the rules earlier? The candidates were given a total of 3 attempts. JEE Main Number of Attempts was counted from the year a candidate has cleared 12th Examination up to 3 consecutive years. It would not matter if the candidate has dropped a year in between or not. 3 consecutive years was the only eligible time period in which the candidate can appear for the JEE Main Exam. Thus, a candidate would get 3 attempts.
How many Attempts for JEE Main 2019?
National Testing Agency is conducting the JEE Main 2019 Exam from this year. The candidates will be getting 6 attempts in 3 consecutive years. Let us see how is it possible. The rule of attempting exams in 3 consecutive years stands true still. As it was in the earlier versions. So how is it the candidate gets 6 attempts for JEE Main 2019.
NTA announced that the JEE Main 2019 and further JEE Main exams will be conducted twice a year. And, the candidate will be given admissions on the basis of best of 2 scores. Thus, the attempt is increased twice the number of eligible years.

Ans: Yes you can take the JEE Main exam after a gap of 1 year once you complete your 12th Board Exam. Though Number of Attempts will be counted from the year of 12th Board Pass.
- Ques: What if my January Session Scores are better than April Scores?
Ans: it does not matter, NTA is going to select the marks out of the best of 2 sessions. The Session in which candidate obtained better result will be considered.
- Ques: How Many attempts are left if I gave an exam in 2018?
Ans: The candidate who gave exam in 2018 as the first attempt are eligible to appear in JEE Main 2019 (January, April) also, JEE Main 2020 (January, April).
- Ques: I gave my 12thBoard Exam in 2017, and took a gap year. How many attempts are left for me?
Ans: If the 12th Exam Boards were passed in 2017, The candidate can appear in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Since JEE Main 2018 is over, You can apply for JEE Main 2019 and appear exams in January and April. JEE Main 2019 is the Last Attempt.
